Young Black Man: Your Life is a Soldier’s Story
By Marlon Aldridge, Sr.
The battlefield of life is full of barricades, mine fields, and ambushes, not to mention that the enemy is very deceptive. If that’s not enough, your support forces will sometimes doubt your capability to win and are also assaulted on every side. Will you surrender or will you fight to the end? This is war young Black man. I hope that you are ready for battle.
The best soldiers are always well trained and well equipped. Have you been well trained, young soldier? Training starts when you come out of the womb. Some of your comrades in arms never made it out of the womb. They were killed by friendly fire or aborted. Remember, war is often lonely and sad.
Once out of the womb, you will learn to coordinate your forces: sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste and gain balance, physical strength, and endurance. This is the beginning of your training.
You will be very dependent upon your support forces during this time: family and community. Your training will be no better than the best that they can provide. The enemy may have better. Don’t worry. There are ways to even the odds.
The enemy will use chemical and biological agents to kill you. Watch out for chemical agents like alcohol and dope and biological agents like HIV/AIDS that the enemy puts in your path to ensure your death. He will use your family and friends to introduce these agents to you. Beware!
His psychological warfare is designed to destroy your will to fight. He will plant his agents around you that will praise his skills and make you doubt yours. He will use his propaganda agents (media agents) to misinform and misdirect you. He will make you think that his cause is right.
Even your support forces will think that his water is wetter than yours. Now, let me tell you how to even the score.
Your life is a soldier’s story, for you are constantly under attack from within and without. Never Give Up!
Hill A has the most enemy resistance. Take Hill B since it has less. Take as many Hill B’s as you can. Soon you will surround Hill A and overcome it.
Find you an able-bodied commander; follow and learn from him because you will one day become a commander too.
Train as a team. Remember Hill A is well fortified and wants to kill you. Train! Train! Train!
Communicate your intentions, wants and needs to your team. They are best able to help you. No one wants to die from friendly fire.
When you are tired, confused, frustrated, and depressed: Attack! Attack! Attack your problems!
Remember, your life is a soldier’s story.
