2011 Highlights

In 2011, we added to our list of usual activities: the Black Man’s Think Tank Conference (April 9-10) and the Classic in the Park Scholarship Festival (September 3). We:

  1. Awarded our first Omar Powell Scholarship award ($1000) to Ameil Edwards, who is attending Morehouse College,
  2. Offered a series of small business development workshops,
  3. Started a new program called the Alliance of Creative Professionals,
  4. Hired our first senior research fellow,
  5. Hired an agent for our newly-created Mii Speakers Bureau.

Although these programs are in the foundational stages, they have major promise in helping us to achieve our mission and to become self-sustaining.

2012-2015 Aspirations

In addition to building on the aforementioned programs, we will (pending approval of the board):

  1. Restructure the BMTT into four centers: (1) The Center for Economic Development, (2) The Center for Educational Attainment, (3) The Center for Health Equity, and (4) The Center for Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation. This center-based model is more in keeping with contemporary think tank structure.
  2. Build strategic alliances in the following industries: (1) health and social services, (2) information technology, (3) retail, distribution, and transportation, (4) business and professional services, (5) film, fine and performing arts, (6) construction, and (7) education as well as alliances with other nonprofits.
  3. Hire permanent staff and make heavy use of college interns and mature workers.
  4. Build our donor base and innovate on business services to our members and clients.
  5. Solicit creation of independent BMTT chapters in major cities throughout the country.
