Food for thought for ex-felons:
(1) Consider a career field where your record may not matter such as real estate agent, real estate appraiser, home inspector, etc. Although these careers are licensed by the state, the type of criminal offense is relevant to the issuing authority. If you are rejected consider the appeal process and make a strong, respectful objection.
(2) Consider starting your own business and get the skills required to do the job professionally. Dress professionally and keep well groomed when conducting business. Attend business training from agencies like SCORE, SBA, local small business development centers, etc. Always ask for referrals from current clients to keep your business going.
(3) If you have the funds, start a franchise business. Subscribe to magazines like Small Business Opportunities, Entrepreneur, Inc., etc. or find small business Web sites to get more information.
