In 2007, there were 1.9 million Black-owned
U.S. Firms (7.1% of total):
*Employing 754 thousand persons (0.8% of total).
*Generating $137.4 billion in sales (0.5% total).
*106,779 were employers (5.6% of total) while 1.8 million were single proprietors.
*Contrast their sales to Ford Motor Company’s 2007 sales of $160 billion or their employment to Walmart’s 1.9 million (Black-owned firms employed 40% of the people that Walmart employed in the same year).

What strategies might the 1.8 million Black-owned, single proprietor businesses use to employ more people particularly those in urban communities?
